The next exchange 20-27.09.2019

The mutual exchange and visit of youth groups from Kleve and Ano Viannos from the Greek island of Crete has become a tradition: since 2010, the Theodor-Brauer-Haus participates in the program "Youth shapes the future - International youth work in places of remembrance" and has since then annually with Greek adolescents and young adults taken turns on the largest Greek island and on the Lower Rhine. So now, is the next visit of the German group from 20-27.09.2019, to Viannos / Crete. During this period, 8 apprentices will join the metalworkers in this exchange. We look forward to an interesting exchange with the Greek youth.

On September 14, 1943, 358 men, women and children from Viannos were murdered on the Greek island of Crete by order of the German Wehrmacht. The Theodor-Brauer-Haus from Kleve is the German youth welfare partner and in September 2010 carried out a first peace camp in Ano Viannos.
The program "Youth is shaping the future - International Youth Meetings at Memorial Remembrance in Europe" has been the consistent development since 2008 to bring young people together in Europe.
It is currently being implemented in six European locations where German civilian military organizations committed crimes against the civilian population during the Second World War.
It is about the realization of the idea of a common Europe, in which young people
play a crucial role in shaping the future. The future can be shaped together when there is a consciousness of common history. This gives rise to a special responsibility to engage in direct contact with the idea of "Europe" and not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

The LVR- State Youth Welfare Office has developed a long-term pedagogical concept of international youth encounters, which offers an attractive offer of mutual encounter, working together, learning and leisure time.
The LVR State Youth Assistance Committee Rhineland has set a permanent annual budget of LVR funds in April 2008 for the program "Youth Shaping the Future - International Youth Work in places of remembrance in Europe". Together with funds from the child and youth development plan of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the overall financing of the program is thereby secured. In 2013, the European Parliament took on the patronage of the program "Youth shapes the future - International youth encounters in places of remembrance in Europe”.
